Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
I’ve never studied Swahili before. Can I still join your online course?
Absolutely! Our courses are specifically designed to welcome complete beginners. You don’t need any prior knowledge of Swahili we’ll start with the very basics, such as greetings, pronunciation, and simple everyday phrases. We use a step-by-step method that allows you to build confidence as you go. Many of our most successful students started without knowing a single word of Swahili, and within just a few weeks, they were able to introduce themselves, ask basic questions, and hold short conversations. With interactive lessons, guided practice, and real-life examples, you’ll not only learn the language but also understand the rich culture behind it. All you need is curiosity and commitment, we’ll take care of the rest!
Can I take lessons at any time of the day?
Yes! We understand that our students come from different countries, time zones, and lifestyles, so flexibility is at the heart of our program. Our classes run between 06:00 and 22:00 EAT (East Africa Time), allowing you to choose a slot that works best for you whether you’re an early bird or a night owl. Many students even schedule lessons before work, during lunch breaks, or in the evening after their day is done. You’re in control of your learning schedule, and if you ever need to reschedule, our team is here to help. This flexibility means you can learn consistently without disrupting your daily routine, making it easier to stay motivated and progress faster.
Can I share my device and learn with a friend?
Yes! Learning with a friend can make lessons more enjoyable and motivating. You are welcome to share the same device with one other person the cost will remain the same for both learners. This allows you to practice together, keep each other accountable, and even role-play conversations during lessons. Please note the following condition: a maximum of two learners per device. Many of our students who learn in pairs progress faster because they can review lessons together and encourage one another outside of class.
Do I have to use Zoom for classes?
For now, yes we use Zoom because it offers the most reliable and easy-to-use platform for live, interactive lessons. Zoom allows us to share learning materials instantly, use virtual whiteboards, and break into small practice groups during class. That said, we know flexibility is important, so outside of class time you can still communicate with your teacher via WhatsApp or email to get support, ask questions, or review assignments. We keep technology simple so that you can focus on what matters most, learning Swahili effectively.
How many classes will I have?
The number of classes depends on the course level you choose from our training calendar. On average, each level requires 20–60 hours of learning time. We offer short-term crash courses for travelers, structured beginner-to-advanced programs for serious learners, and conversational practice sessions for those looking to maintain their skills. Our system ensures that each lesson builds on the previous one, so you can see real progress week by week. You can also extend your course or book extra practice sessions if you’d like more support, the learning pace is entirely in your hands.
How much will I be able to learn?
How much you learn depends on your dedication, practice, and consistency. We provide you with expert teachers, engaging resources, and proven learning techniques but your active participation is the key to success. Many of our students are able to greet people, introduce themselves, and handle simple daily conversations within the first few weeks. With consistent effort, you could reach conversational fluency within months. Remember, learning a language is not just about memorizing words — it’s about immersing yourself in the culture, understanding expressions, and practicing in real life situations. We’ll guide you every step of the way to make sure you’re confident, capable, and ready to use Swahili in the real world.
Will I get a certificate after completing the course?
Yes! Upon successfully completing your course, you will receive a professional certificate that highlights your level of Swahili proficiency. This certificate can be useful for travel, job applications, academic purposes, or simply as a personal achievement to showcase your dedication and skill. It’s a testament to your hard work and a great addition to your resume.
What materials do I need for lessons?
All you need is a device with internet access, Zoom installed, and a notebook or digital notes app for practice. We provide all lesson materials, audio recordings, and exercises digitally, so you can review anytime and anywhere. You’ll also get access to practice activities, cultural insights, and vocabulary lists that make learning more interactive and memorable.
How quickly will I start speaking Swahili?
Many students start speaking simple Swahili phrases from the very first lesson. We focus on practical communication, so you can introduce yourself, order food, shop, and ask for directions almost immediately. With consistent attendance and practice, you could be having real conversations in just a few weeks.
Can I reschedule or cancel a lesson?
Yes. We understand life can get busy, so we allow you to reschedule lessons as long as you give at least 24 hours’ notice. This flexibility ensures that you never lose momentum in your learning, while also respecting our teachers’ time.
